Press Release: Sabah Development Corridor 10-year anniversary carnival

Kota Kinabalu(Thursday) - The Sabah Economic Development and Investment Authority (SEDIA) will be organising the 10th Year SDC Anniversary Carnival, which will be launched in Kota Kinabalu and held throughout the state. The opening ceremony for the inaugural carnival held in KK will be on March 15, 2018, and is expected to be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Mohd Najib bin Tun Abdul Razak.

On showcase during the event will be the various Sabah Development Corridor (SDC) projects and programmes, of which some had been completed over the past 10 years, involving the government, government-linked companies and members of the private sector. The carnival will also provide for business opportunities and serve as a trading platform for investors, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and Start-ups, allowing them to showcase their products and services.

Public attendees will be drawn in by key event highlights such as the exhibition and bazaar, local SME products, trade and investment promotions, business seminar and pocket talks, financial advisory services, investment incentives, start-up and incubator registration, SDC BizLink and e-commerce, and a skill training and education fair. In addition, supporting activities during the carnival comprise of business facilities and services, product development, prototyping and proof of concept, promotional opportunities, marketing and product demonstration, business matching and networking, sales pitching, and walk-in job interviews.

The carnival follows the National Conference on Economic Corridors: Challenges and Prospects which was held during January 29-30, 2018, both events commemorating the 10-year anniversary of SDC.

The Sabah Development Corridor began with the launch of the SDC Blueprint on January 29, 2008, during the launching ceremony held at Sapangar Bay Container Port and officiated by then-Prime Minister Tun Datuk Seri Panglima Abdullah Haji Ahmad Badawi. This was followed by the establishment of SEDIA through the adoption of the Sabah Economic Development and Investment Authority Enactment 2009 on January 15, 2009. The SDC initiative is now midway through its implementation cycle that will complete in 2025, and in its third and final phase, thus SEDIA recognises that the anniversary is an opportune time to share with all stakeholders, especially members of the public, about all the projects, programmes and initiatives that have been implemented thus far through the SDC programme.

Through the Sabah Economic Development and Investment Authority Enactment 2009, SEDIA is vested with the necessary power to serve as a decision-making and execution institution that is tasked to realise the SDC vision and mission, by being the One-Stop Authority to plan, co-ordinate, promote and accelerate the development of SDC. SEDIA is responsible to coordinate Federal and State government resources, expedite approvals, and oversee the Blueprint implementation.
