Kota Kinabalu (Friday) - The inaugural meeting of the Sabah Development Corridor (SDC) – Corridor and Kota Kinabalu Steering Committee was held today at one of the leading hotels in Kota Kinabalu. The committee members are drawn from various federal and state ministries, departments and agencies. The meeting was also attended by PEMANDU Chief Executive, Y.B. Senator Dato’ Sri Idris Jala, who addressed the opening of the meeting.
The steering committee is one of the components in the governance structure recommended to be set up under the Corridors and Cities Lab for the implementation of Entry Point Projects (EPPs). In his remarks, Dato’ Sri Idris Jala thanked and congratulated the Sabah state government and the Sabah Economic Development and Investment Authority (SEDIA) under the guidance of YAB Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Hj. He applauded the close working relationship between the Sabah State Government and the Federal Government. Of the Corridors and Cities lab held in Sabah last year, Dato’ Idris said “If I look at the work done during the lab, there’s no doubt that the work done here in Sabah is truly impressive”.
“This allowed for the efficient implementation of development projects, and has helped promote a vibrant investment climate,” he added. “Altogether we have 31 EPPs, which we believed if we move the pieces together will bring a cumulative investment of RM77.5 billion by the year 2020. The good news is that half of that amount has already been secured; RM 35 billion has already been identified and within our reach”. In concluding his speech, he called upon members of the committee to assist in ensuring that all proposed investment be effectively implemented.
In his earlier remarks, Dato’ Sri Idris Jala also congratulated SEDIA for the successful launching of the Sabah Development Corridor (SDC) Open Day: Corridors and Regional Cities Programme, on the 16th of February this year. He said the event was significant as it unveiled to the public the outcome of the Corridors and Regional Cities laboratory.
